Last friday i made my weekly trip up to The Snow Centre! but this week it was for the Burton High 5 tour comp.
The night started off well with an amazing course that was built by the DWA even including a van half way down to jib!
After what seemed like ages we had qualifications for about an hour which at the end of i found i made finals so was really pleased as i wasnt really expecting to do so well after a week of flu. I gave it my best shot in the finals and ended up walking away with 3rd and no falls in both my runs.
Congrats to everyone who rode as the standard was super high and thank you to the guys at Burton for holding such a good comp all round.

Spartan Race for SANDS

Bit of time since i last posted so thought id update you all on a race that i am participating in this sunday.
The race is this sunday morning in Redhill just outside london, its a challenging 5k run with 10+ different grueling obstacles along the way making it a race that is sure to get you soaked to the skin covered in mud and testing your fitness to the extreme.

I will be running for a particularly close charity to our family called SANDS
which is helping families who suffer and have suffered from having still born babies, i am trying to break the £200 mark all be it i only decided to this last week so would be grateful for any support you can offer however large or small every penny will make a difference.

So its been a really hot week or so here as im sure you all have noticed and it doesnt seem to be letting up which i love and i hope you all have been enjoying the sun as much as i have.
Last weekend infact i was lucky enough to be sent a ticket to go to the Goodwood Festival of speed by DC so decided to head up there with the crew for some sun and insanely fast cars!!

The day was a real insight to a lot of super cars and how much money actually it actually costs to own a decent super car....One day eh!

I have attached some pictures below to show a few of the things i saw including Ken Blocks rally car he is competing in this season!

If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know I’ve just got back from an epic trip to Mammoth with my friend, Ben Kilner.

Two whole weeks of sun, beers… oh and lots of boarding! I’ve spent most my life going from hotel room to hotel room , flight to flight desperately seeking the best snow around.

This year I’ve been focusing on editorial coverage, I’ve been spending a lot more time with Monster, DC and Action Camera’s. As good as it’s been to develop those relationships it does result in me missing the snow! So, I guess you can tell what comes next… Saving!

I’m on a mission to get out to Whistler, Canada. It’s one of my favourite places to ride, it’s renown for its snowparks and its glacier. By the end of the year I intend to be able to land a double cork… without any broken bones ;-)

Riding isn’t a cheap sport, so I’ll get back to you and let you know how I get on with my trick once I’ve started saving!

In the mean time, while the snow settles, I’m setting myself the team task of working on my summer sports. I’m a massive surfing fan! I managed a cheeky long weekend in Devon last weekend to hit some waves. You can check out some of the pictures from that trip here.

It won’t come as a shock to you that I’ve had The Drum on repeat… in their words – “I wanna go surfing!” I can’t wait for the weather to pick up, second day of summer today though and it was boiling – I think it’s going to be a good few months!

Then, hello winter for some epic snow… and a double cork or two. In between the surfing and the shredding I’ll do my best to keep the blog posts coming, I can’t promise anything those as I’ll be busy learning a new trick or two and saving some more pennies for some new toys!

Run To The Sun 2011

After flying in from LA i had a week of rest and a few bits and pieces before i headed down to the coast for Run To The Sun 2011 with some mates. All that was on the agenda was surf by day party by night for 5 days straight!
The weather wasnt the best but could have been worse however that didnt stop anything that we wanted to do whilst we were there and had a few banging surfs in some pretty tough conditions,then headed back each night and had some amazing partys till...well they didnt really stop shall we say.

Well it seems like a while since i have done a post so im sorry for that but its because i have been out in Mammoth Mountain in California!
I decided to head out there on the 6th with a god friend of mine Ben kilner to get some spring time riding in whislt the snow in Europe was shockingly bad and it more than paid off!

I had never been out to California before so it was something i was really looking forward to and the mountain did not disappoint. We were met on the first day by bright blue sunny skies and the perfect Mammoth park with all its bright pink features even if it was pretty slushy but then again we were expecting that and an awesome first day was had so smiles all round.

Waking up the following morning however was a sight that i did not expect to see in mid may! a full blown snowstorm freezing temperatures and around a foot of snow had already fallen!! this was to stick around for a few days but being English this didn't stop us and we unlike the rest of the mountain were determined to go ride.

The trip turned out to be a mixture of weather which did test us however when a perfect park is laid out for you each day you are sure to progress and that is what we did, a lot of new tricks were learnt and a few different ones tried so a successful time was spent out in Mammoth!

On the last 2 days of our trip we were lucky enough to spend some time down in LA with a new found friend who showed us the sights and night life of Beverly Hills,Hollywood,Santa Monica and Venice Beach before making what turned out to be a long trip and a missed flight home VIA Washington DC.

Wear a helmet!!!

How many people do you know this year that have had serious head injuries whilst out on the snow slopes, a fair few i imagine!
Most of which were actually wearing helmets and have now after some critical times pulled through! Imagine what could have happened had they not been wearing one...

The blunt fact in the matter is that helmets save lives and it doesn't matter who you are or how cool you think you may be always wear one. I know we are all guilty from time to time in not putting it on but truth is every time you are out riding without one you are taking a massive roll of the dice in your safety.

According to recent research by the British Medical Journal, general head injury can be reduced by 35% by wearing a helmet. For children aged 13 years or younger, head injury can even be reduced by 59%. Thats a big percentage!

This statistic has been seen by many insurance companies and has started to change the way they look at things. British insurance provider Essential Travel has announced its 'no helmet, no cover for head injuries' policy. Essential Travel insures up to 25,000 skiers a season and is aiming to roll out its new policy next season. The company hopes other insurance providers will follow its example.

This being said, all children aged 16 and under partaking in any activity at The Snow Centre have to wear a crash helmet while on the snow, even in non-skiing and snowboarding activities. Helmets are also compulsory for everyone participating in freestyle activities, ringos, lessons from Level 1 to Level 4 inclusive, race training and any form of competition.

I fully support this decision made By The Snow Centre and think everyone else should follow in their footsteps.

Freestyle Wednesday at The Snow Centre

At last after what feels like a decade this season it is starting to dump all over the Alps!
For those of you who haven't been away yet this season you haven't missed much up until now so fingers crossed it keeps on snowing!
30-40cm has fallen in some places and im sure it has excited a lot of locals just like this Wednesday (23rd feb) is exciting a lot of people because The Snow Centre is holding a small freestyle night with 2 rails out but what rails is a secret until 7pm when we will find out what they have built for us.

If like me you are not up to a great deal tonight then be sure to head on down and get an early weeks freestyle in which is looking to be a great night!

Just finished up for the week on our course out here in Mayrhofen with the guys on the course and the all rode amazingly well. From the first day to now i would have to say their riding has improved massively and there board control has doubled! The guys all learnt a variety of tricks and some even progressing up to 540's which was so satisfying to watch and see the grins on the riders faces after learning new tricks.
Home time now and its safe to say we are all shattered and sunburnt :p after some really long days up the mountain.

DC Trip to Chamonix 2011

Yesterday i got back from a short but amazing trip out to Chamonix to meet up with the team for a couple of days to get some filming and photos done. We had a great time staying in the very nice new DC pad out there and managed to get a few shots in a few different places from mountain bike bomb drops to back country kickers. The last night of the trip was something i have never experienced before when we were asked to do a Demo for Monster Energy which was good fun in the new DC rail park getting shuttled up by a snow mobile every run. After the demo was done myself and team manager James Stentiford traded our boards for 100 yr old traditional wooden snow bike/sledges and hurtled from the top of Les Houches to the bottom well out of control but the most fun iv had in a long time! Thanks to everyone at DC Edd, james, Julian Christian who made the trip a lot of fun.

· To enter to win you must be able to ski or snowboard to a minimum recreational standard: be able to link turns, to stop, control your speed and use the button lift unassisted.

· Age restrictions apply for juniors. Children aged 10 years and under who are signed off at level 4 or 5, must be accompanied by an adult on the slope who can also ski or snowboard to the minimum recreational standard. Children aged 8, 9 or 10 years who are signed off at level 6 can go on the slope without an adult, but the adult must stay on the premises. Children under 11 years taking part in any snow activity must have a responsible adult on site at all times.

· It will be open to all UK residents (excluding those affiliated with The Snow Centre) and only the recreational lift passes will be included – not travel/accommodation.

So after a long drawn out trip back due to the little snow that fell over Heathrow which has now been put down to the incompetence of ground staff i made it back to the UK and had a good christmas at home with my family and girlfriend eating far to much and spending alot of time on the WII
Looking forward to the new year now and what 2011 will have in store!

Well why not give them the opertunity to get on the realSnow slopes! in Hemel Hempstead at The snow Centre and get an introductory lesson from some of the best coaches around! If however you are already an able ski or boarder then why not get a personal coaching lesson all to yourself?

*With the cold spell hitting the UK this year im sure most of you are getting freezing cold hands! why not get the perfect stocking fillers and keep yours and your friends hands warm with some excellent reusable ones that last for ages! why bother buying loads when you can ust buy one set which work through the best crystallization around.

*So you now have some warm hands but what good is that when the rest of you is going to be cold? Having a good base layer is key to any winter sport to make the most out of your days on the hill. How about some high end brands such as Helly Hansen,Odlo or Ice breaker to keep you toasty from the Snow and Rock store underneath The Snow Centre?

* we have done the items to keep you warm but what about the key item to protect you from the heat from above!
So many people pass up when it comes to sun cream but believe me its important when out on the mountain. With the sun beating down onto the snow it reflects straight back up onto your face and can burn you alot without you even noticing!
The lowest factor i would recommend would be SPF 30 with UVA protection in it and along with that wear either a good set of goggles or sunnies!

* Choosing sunglasses can be a rite pain and sometimes the receiver may not like your choice of style.Everyone always has their own preference to what they want especially when it comes to matching outfits, colors and shapes, not to mention whats good and whats not when it comes to brands. This goes for everything to be honest so why not treat the receiver to the choice their self with a gift voucher so they can be sure to have the gift they want!

Whatever you decide to get loved ones friends and family this Christmas holidays make sure its a good holiday more than anything and most of all have a great time!

Snow Storm

So we went riding today and the weather was not the best but it was snowing so we had some fun. On the way back it started snowing a little heavier and the wind picked up. We went swimming, came out and it was insane! super strong howling winds,driving snow -10c and the roads were totally covered! Even the moterway had been shut due to some kind of accident or lorries blocking it because of snow!

So last night i went to sleep after being promised snow and there being nothing! This morning however i awoke to half a foot outside our condo and knee to waist deep powder at the top of Breck! What a great day we had blasting down the back bowls and crusing the park with powder landings!
Not sure what the weather has in store for us for the next few days but a guy said to me on the lift were in for some serious dumping for 5 days straight.... lift talk or true i shall let you know!

First day at Breck today which was fun all be it that the weather was not the best. After getting the boards sorted with the car it was a good day. there is a fun little 3 set in the park which is great for learning as they put you up in the air nicely! fingers crossed for better weather tomorrow even though im not complaining to much as its actually snowing!

Christmas spirit!!

Santa coming to the Snow centre....Really?
Yes he is and if you are not starting to feel the Christmas spirit then this really will get you in the mood.
From the 11th of December until the night before christmas eve,If you have young ones (aged 4-11) then bring them along to visit Santa himself and his little helpers in a fantastic log cabin on the real snow slopes what could be more fun than visiting Santa with your christmas wish list in his real surroundings, you don't get better than this!
To spread even more christmas joy, your not just putting a smile on your child's face but all proceeds go to the local Hospice of St. Francis in Berkhamsted to support families and patients living with life limiting illnesses and help them too.

Once you have finished in the winter wonderland you can send the young ones off for a thrilling ride on the ringos to fly fast down the slope so long as they are above 4 years old.

This is such a laugh and fun for all the family leading up to the big day itself so be sure to bring your camera to capture the smiles and laughter of all the family

Another year another mental Morrow Jam on friday 19th Nov

Another Year anther mental morrow jam this year for the second time at the snow centre
This year marks 17 years that the Morrow jam has been running and believe me, although i haven't been even snowboarding for 17 years i have been to around 8 of them and you are really in for a treat if you come along for some fun on the snow slopes!
My first Morrow jam was held at a drysople near to where i live and ever year since then i have aimed to be at each one.
Rob needham the man behind the madness really does like to have a laugh when snowboarding and this reflects in the competition itself. If this is your first comp or you have done plenty before then its sure to be a great night as at these events there really is something for everyone and the fun vibe and jam session really comes into its own when you start to see everyone pushing their own limits and learning new tricks.
The morrow jam is not all about just snowboarding though as even if you are not riding there will be plenty to keep you amused, up in the 'Edge bar' you will be treated to great viewing to watch everything unfold as well as the band "Fluid lines" a raffle with a whole bunch of prizes including some taster snowboard lessons aswell as being able to have a good feed at the bar.
Registration for the event is on the night which you can enter for from 7pm onwards with the snowboarding wrapping up around 11pm, then its all to the bar for the prize giving and after party!
This really does look set to be a good night so come along whatever your ability and have some fun!

Tickets can be purchased at £45 for adults and £35 for Juniors but there is a fantastic early bird offer:

LEGENDARY MOUNTAIN GUIDE NIGEL SHEPHERD COMES TO THE SNOW CENTRE

Wednesday 10th of november!
Are you fed up of crowds, long lift lines and rutted slopes then come along to The snow centre and listen to Nigel Shepherd give a seminar and share his knowledge with us all on his experience as a mountain guide.

Nigel is an Alpine Safety Advisor for The Ski Club of Great Britain and is involved in educating skiers on what they call their FreshTracks program which is great because it caters for everyone whether you are a total beginner or one of the most enthusiastic explorers out there.

As well as being an amazing guide Nigel is also a good photographer and will share with you his knowledge on the topic as well as where some of the best out of bounds areas are to be found and most importantly of all how to get there and enjoy them whilst being safe and aware of your elements and surroundings.

Nigel has recently been working in partnership with salomon and their research and development team to release a new range of boots and skis called "the Quest range"
The Quest range is aimed at people who like to go off the beaten track and by doing so making it easier for them to access powder fields and that un touched virgin snow that we all dream of.

This is just one of many seminars that Nigel will be taking throughout november as he has teamed up with snow + rock up and down the country.

Who knows, this talk could just be what changes your trip this year from another trip to the trip of a lifetime!

The talks will run from 7 - 9pm followed by a demo session from 9 - 10pm on the snow.

Hemel has visit from top skier

Last night i went up to The snow centre as i had heard from a few friends that there was going to be a few jibs and rails out to have a play on.
When i had arrived i saw that it was actually an atomic free ski night were they had
Elias Ambuhl over from switzerland to ride for the night after he had just competed and blown everyone away at the London freeze at Battersea powerstation last weekend.
To watch him ride the rails to start with he was just mucking around and you could see all the other skiers there were in ore at how good he was whilst practically doing nothing. About half hour into the night out of nowhere he decided that he would casually do a gap 450 of to the down rail still like it was no problem atall and ride away laughing. You have never seen so many kids on skis stop what they were doing and jaws hit the ground so quickly!
I think it was great to have him riding at Hemel as for so many of the younger guys, to be able to ski with such a good skier and see what if they work hard enough for they could have will really lift the level of riding indoors.
Along with skiing with the guys he also signed a few of there bits and bobs and was really easy to get on with and chat too which is always nice as so many people think that the top pro's are unapproachable!

Whilst the skiing was going on myself and a few mate snuck in a few runs and managed to hit the rails and all in all have a good night. Its always nice to get back riding with friends after a stressful weekend at a big comp.

London Freeze 2010

Just got back from The london freeze, and what an interesting time that was. Friday the slope itself was not running in a good way at all and didnt really show off the UK's tallent that we have. having said that the guys rode well and some good tricks were put down.
Saturday was the World cup and i managed to ride alot better than i had done the day before putting down my first trick and having a small drag on my bs 9 for my second jump.
In the end i managed to end up the 2 highest British rider and get my feet firmly back on my board as that day was the year mark from me getting out of hospital with my broken pelvis.

Snow + Rock Presents New Collection at The Snow Centre

Not up to much on the Thursday?
Why not come down to Hemel Hempstead Snow centre and try out some new kit for the 2010/2011 seasons!
All you have to do is turn up between 6pm and 10pm thursday to the Snow + Rock store at the entrance to the snow centre and speak to some of team who will point you in the direction of the demo team on the slope!

This really is worth coming along to. Just buy a lift ticket at the reception desk and then it’s a chance to be like a big kid at Christmas, and lets be honest where else can you try out as many snowboards or skis for next year in the same place and really get to ask some in depth questions about the products before you buy them. Not to mention you will be riding possibly the UK’s best artificial snow in the country.

Some of the boards I would look out for that are being demoed here are the Salomon ‘official’ I have a few friends who ride for Salomon and this is actually their choice of board due to it being extremely stable off big jumps and an all round great park board that holds its own on the mountain too.
The DC mlf would be another great pick to try out. Used by the majority of the DC international pro team you know your onto a real winner with this board, I mean if its good enough for the likes of Torstein Horgmo then im sure its just fine for anyone else!
There is also loads of Skis to try out aswell from brands like Rossingnol and Salomon to name a few that im sure will blow you away.
Whatever your skill though I suggest you come no one is to good or too bad to try out the kit as there really is something for everyone here.

So i left Hintertux yesterday and came home which was sad but the bad weather made it easier thats for sure. Im back now for a couple of weeks, down at the ski show on friday with DC for a good old party and then the following week im jumping at the London Freeze event at Batersea power station.

Last day in Hintertux

So today was my last day in Hintertux and possibly the worst weather we have had here yet! however today was the most fun we have had also! I spent the day filming with Nate (kern) some fun clips for a small edit that we i will get up on here later on.

So im out in Hintertux riding everyday at the moment in there amazing park. I spent yesterday on the smaller jumps warming my legs up and today i started to ride the big jumps again getting the feeling back! Sun shining and great weather all round so good times out here.

Burton High 5

On Friday i competed in the Burton High 5 competition at Hemel snow centre.
I havent competed indoors in a few years so this was the first one back for me and i had a great time to say the least. The park was amazing ( some may have described it as mayhem and others "too gnarly" for indoor standards) but then again thats what the shapers wanted to do and push the level of indoor riding in the UK. I managed to have alot of fun riding the park and at the end of the night walk away with 1st place and a funny little snow globe :) Thanks to All the guys at Burton for a great event and Hemel for hosting it.

So the weekend just gone i helped coach on the Definition level 1 freestyle camp at Hemel snow centre. The camp was a success and all the riders on the course really pushed there own limits and gained massive confidence on both the rail and the jump over the 2 days up there. Rite now i am chilling with my girl and looking forward to riding this wednesday and friday and setting the wheels in motion for a few trips coming up.

This weekend, the 18th-19th september is official winter season launch at Hemel Hempstead Snow centre.
With taster sessions for adults and juniors at really cheap prices what better way to get you ready for the coming winter season.

I ride at Hemel every wednesday and friday night and watch the qualified BASI instructors teaching skiing and snowboarding lessons lessons i can personally say that it is sure to be a great day for everyone who takes part.With the atmosphere at the snow centre by far one of the best in the country with all members of staff/instructors/managers and general public getting on and really helping each other improve on there skills and to add to that it also offers in my opinion the best snow in the country too for a great experience.

If however the taster session is not for you because you can already ski or board then The demo team from Snow + Rock have confirmed they will be on the snow over the weekend, so you can test the latest equipment for 2011 and ask questions.

pretty Ideal if you're after some new gear or just fancy having a go on something different and knowing some of the guys that work in the shop they are very clued up on what they are talking about.

As well as a great time on the slope the Edge bar is offering 25% discount on all food with all passes from the slope.

Plymouth

So i'v been away for a couple of days down to Plymouth to see some friends and for my little sister to do a shoot for Girly legs! and at the same time i got to skate at Prime skatepark which was amazing.
After that i went surfing with Nick from Grenade gloves and to say the water had a bit of sea weed in it was an understatement!
All in all a good few days rounded off with a massive all you can eat dinner!

So i have just been away on holiday for 18 days in Biarritz in France surfing with some of my mates. It was an amazing time and the weather could not have been any better! we surfed for 16 of the 18 days and im now so into it i just want to go back again as nothing beats sitting out back in just your board shorts!

The snow season is now back on my mind knocking around the corner so trips will start happening again soon for that.

So i just got back from the board test which was super fun! Not the best weather all week unfortunately but we made the best of it anyway.
Managed to shoot a photo or two with James north on one of the days which hopefully came out ok so pleased with that. Great to hang out again with the DC guys and i look forward to another trip soon :)

Out at the board test in kaunertal at the moment with the DC crew. The weather is really pretty bad with gale force winds snow,rain,sleet and hail but that does not stop us having a great time and enjoying ourselfs.

So with the recent event of the volcano erupting and causing airports to shut down it meant that i have now been stuck at home as the i was due to head away the day after the first strike but that didn't happen:(
Since then i have been at home done a bit of skating,riding the domes and some work and getting excited about heading out to the board test next week with DC.
If its anything like last year it should be fun.
Hope all is well with everyone and your getting ready for what looks to be a hot summer.

DC Team trip

So i have just returned home after the British champs and an amazing week straight after it with DC shooting video at both of their new parks in Kitzbuhel in Austria and also Les Houches in france. The trip was the most fun i have had in a long time and i loved every minute of it from drifting rentals to perfect sunshine and shaped parks. The accommodation was really great too staying at two DC houses that they have at each resort.
We also met up with two guys from monster who were super funny and for sure know how to party and make you laugh in the quietest of bars!!

Yesterday i went to Travis Rice's very own art gallery kind of place where all his board graphics and the artist that drew them was there working.It was amazing to see and be able to meet the artist behind them and also look at all the paintings hanging on the wall as originals. It was really a once in a lifetime experiance and was fully amazing!!
